You are invited to stop by the library to pick up a Building Blocks learning kit that you can use with your child to help them get ready for preschool or kindergarten and to learn the early skills they need to be successful readers and learners. New Building Block kits - filled with activity sheets, helpful supplies, and tips for parents-- will be available at the Circulation Desk each Monday. We hand out kits until our supply is gone - there is no registration. We have greatly increased the number of kits available!
Building Blocks for Tots is a unique program, created by the Children’s Department of the Woodridge Public Library, promoting school readiness for children ages 3 through 5. Building Blocks helps parents and caregivers work with children at home by providing weekly learning kits with activities that can be explored together to help children learn or practice concepts or skills that lay the foundation for basic understanding, learning in school, and eventually reading!
Learning ABCs, numbers, colors, and shapes are part of the weekly learning kits, and each week a different area of learning is highlighted, including Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Physical Development along with early literacy, and social and emotional development.
This program is interactive and will have something new offered throughout the year!
Fall, Winter & Spring Building Blocks: Each week, TAKE HOME BBT kits will be available at the Circulation Desk on a first-come, first-serve basis. Take-Home packets will reinforce alphabet and number skills and focus on new learning, and social and developmental skills each month. Find future pickup dates and skill themes for TAKE HOME BBT on the Events Calendar.
Summer Building Block for Tots: Each Monday, a packet of materials that contain learning exercises along with supplies for fine motor skills activities are available at the Circulation Desk in the Lobby. We will post a link on our YouTube Channel to videos (created by the Woodridge Children’s staff) that show you how to use each week's packet with your child, AND you'll find links to online songs or activities in the video's description for fun and practice.
Building Blocks for Tots is comprehensive, providing a framework that encourages families to work with their children on nationally recognized skill development activities. It is also flexible and designed so families can join at any time – just jump in! Building Block Tots supports parents and grandparents with guidance for conducting fun literacy and academic skill activities and links to entertaining songs, activities, and books for children.
