Program Description

Event Details

Experience American History through the artifacts of local educator and resident Vann Harris, in an interactive exhibit reflecting African American history, Native American history and the shared history of these cultures within the American Experience.
Highlights include collections such as Buffalo Soldiers, African Art, Mississippi Farm Tools, Tuskegee Airmen, and Black Pioneers & Black Indians.
Try on a bomber jacket with the logo of the Red Tails, or Tuskegee Airmen. Hold and push a plow that was used in the cotton fields of Mississippi. Examine carvings, jewelry and clothing from Africa. See the secret patterns in quilts that were used as signals along the Underground Railroad.
Many artifacts can be handled by attendees as they walk through the self-guided exhibit, with Vann Harris and members of his family available to discuss the origin and significance of the items.
All ages are invited, and families are encouraged to explore the exhibit together.

This is a free event, open to the public. Registration is not required.
