Foraging for wild and edible plants does not have to take you far from home. You may be surprised to learn that a number of everyday "weeds" are actually delicious plants that can be collected from your own back yard and nearby areas! In fact, most typical yard weeds are European migrants that arrived with settlers, and were often cultivated as medicinal or food plants. Did you know, for example, that the commonplace - and nutritious! - dandelion can be utilized to make an excellent tea, coffee, wine, and salad?

Sara Russell, interpretive naturalist from the Forest Preserve District of Will County, will join us virtually from the Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville to discuss what you need to know to become an expert forager of some of our most common wild plants - including how to identify, collect, and prepare them in your kitchen! She will also talk about what plants to avoid.
