You've probably read at least one of Ray Bradbury's classic books in your lifetime. Did you know August 22, 2020 is Ray Bradbury’s 100th birthday! Did you also know that this great science fiction writer was born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Waukegan - just an hour north of Woodridge? In fact, Waukegan (which he calls “Green Town”) is featured in some of his writings, most notably "Dandelion Wine," "Something Wicked This Way Comes," and "The Martian Chronicles." Learn about his early pioneer ancestors, Waukegan in the 1920s & 30s, Ray's childhood, and family influences. Also, learn about some of what inspired him to write, including his local library, going to the movies, and an encounter at a carnival.
Ty Rohrer, a Ray Bradbury expert and Manager of Cultural Arts for the Waukegan Park District, is presenting this program. He is also the City Historian and Director of the Waukegan History Museum. He plans to display his many historic images!
