MediaOnDemand Downloadable Audiobooks Now Available

The Woodridge Public Library has joined with nine other area libraries to form a new service called “MediaOnDemand.” Now you can download best selling digital titles 24/7 to your PC (personal computer) or PDA (personal digital assistant) at home, in the office or from anywhere in the world. Many of the titles can also be burned to CD (compact disc).

Titles include the latest fiction and nonfiction best sellers, book club favorites, award winning authors and much more. The Library is looking to add a collection of downloadable videos and music in the near future to the MediaOnDemand selection.

To have access to MediaOnDemand all you need is a Woodridge Public Library card. You can have up to five titles checked out and five items on hold at any given time. Please note that specific titles vary in their ability to be transferred to PCs, PDAs (e.g., MP3 players and iPods) and burned to CDs.

Playaways

Check out our new collection of Playaways. What are Playaways? They are compact MP3 players that fit into your shirt pocket or purse, each containing one audiobook. No more fumbling with cassettes or CDs, and no need to download anything! Each comes with a spare battery and you can purchase ear buds at the Circulation Desk for one dollar or use your own.

Browse the catalog to see our complete collection of Playaways. The Library will be receiving many more over the next few months. You can place a hold on any titles that are currently checked out by clicking on the Request button at the top of the screen.

The Playaways are currently on display near the Library’s new DVDs.

Video Console Games

The Library now offers access to circulating Wii, PlayStation3, and Xbox 360 games rated E (Everyone), E10+ (Everyone 10 and older), and T (Teen). The loan period is one week and renewals are not allowed. Blank cases for these games are dispayed on a display unit in the front lobby. Blank cases can be exchanged for cases containing game discs at the Circulation Desk. Because of the popularity of these titles, you may want to browse our lists of titles (click on the above links) and place holds (requests) on those that are already checked out.
