Welcome to the Children's Department!

Welcome to the Children’s Department! The staff of the Children’s Department offers a variety of services to children birth through 6th grade, parents, teachers and others who work with children.

Staff members are happy to help you find whatever you need, from homework help to planning a children’s party or finding that special book you remember. We can also make suggestions for good books to read on a variety of reading levels and interests.

Summer Programs

 Every Hero Has a Story

Summer Reading Program: Every Hero Has a Story!

Calling all superheroes! We are looking for children in preschool through grade 7 to join our super summer reading clubs. Have fun reading, win prizes and take part in an action-packed summer at the Woodridge Public Library.

Registration begins June 1 and the summer reading program continues through July 25 at 5 p.m. Children should bring their library card to the Children’s Desk to register for one of the following clubs:

Wee Readers
For children younger than 2 years old (on June 1): children will receive prizes when they complete a set of required activities.
Please note: children 2 – 3 years old can choose between Wee Readers or Book Club 1.

Book Club 1
For children reading E Picture Books or E+ Readers and for children who do not yet read on their own: this club encourages reading aloud and gives pre-readers the chance to earn prizes. A prize will be awarded for every ten books.

Book Club 2
For children confidently reading on their own: read whatever you want, and keep track of your time spent reading. Prizes will be awarded for every 5 hours of reading (based on the local school district’s recommendation of 20 – 30 minutes of reading a day.)

Visit the Children’s Desk to pick up Summer Reading brochures that include all program and prize details.

Reading logs may be brought back to the library beginning June 10. Drawings for Book Club 1 and 2 will be held weekly with prizes donated by local businesses.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten Calling all families with babies, toddlers and preschoolers: register today for the read-to-me program that leads to lifelong reading success.

Look how easy it is to reach the goal:
One story a day for 5 years equals 1825 stories!
One story a day for 4 years equals 1460 stories!
One story a day for 3 years equals 1095 stories!

Visit the Children's Reference Desk to get started.

There's a lot to explore at the Library. So much that it doesn't all fit in the building! Check out some of our online resources for homework help, animated books, learning a new language, and more.
